Engineering Expertise Forged Through Experience
At Lamont Engineering Services, we don’t just tick boxes. We bring decades of practical, hands-on experience to every job. Led by Craig Lamont and based in the North West of the UK, we serve Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Merseyside, and the wider North West with skilled, reliable support in mechanical engineering, electrical systems, fabrication, welding, and inspection. Our strength lies in real-world capability built on hard-earned industry knowledge, combined with a passion for training and developing others.
Craig’s journey spans over 30 years across shipbuilding, marine rig maintenance, industrial inspection, and technical education. From the refit decks of jack-up and testing rigs to classroom whiteboards in Saudi Arabia, he’s seen every side of the trade, and delivered at every level.

From Shipyards to Classrooms: A Career Rooted in Skill and Integrity
Craig began his career in the heavy and marine industries, working on vessels that demanded compliance with ISO, IMO, ASME, Lloyd’s Register, and Bureau Veritas standards. At Universal Bulk Handling Ltd., he supported apprenticeships with training in valve and pipe fabrication, manhole fitting, cutting, welding, and coating. Alongside hands-on projects, he helped future tradespeople understand what it means to deliver precision under pressure.
Whether it’s pipefitting, flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), or machining using Bridgeport mills and CNC XYZ programming, Craig doesn’t delegate experience. He’s done the work himself. That includes requalifying for “above the waterline” welding codes and maintaining high safety standards across all disciplines.
International Training and Technical Leadership
Craig’s work in engineering has gone beyond the UK. At ITQAN College in Al Juaimah, Saudi Arabia, he was responsible for training and assessing multinational staff to deliver City & Guilds-approved curriculum in:
- Welding and NDT Inspection
- Mechanical and Civil Inspection
- Electrical and Safety Standards
He also introduced formal teacher assessments modelled on OFSTED’s graded observations and coached new instructors in lesson delivery and feedback. This work supported the Kingdom’s 2030 Vision, preparing Saudi nationals to become assessors, teachers, and technical leaders in their own right.
Closer to home, Craig has worked with SMEs and Technical Colleges to deliver technical modules for the UK Government’s End Point Assessment (EPA) initiative, guiding apprentices through the Defence Maritime 4-Year Framework and more.

Innovation Without the Jargon: Industry 4.0 at Work
Craig has always believed that new technology should be practical, not intimidating. While studying advanced manufacturing and Industry 4.0 in his own time, he has also introduced these ideas at a foundational level for learners.
Developing future companies and future engineers with skills such as:
- Computer Numerical Control (CNC)
- Programmable Logic Controllers (Siemens S1200)
- CAD using Inventor, Siemens NX, and Onshape
- Additive Manufacturing
- Collaborative Robotics (Dobot, UFactory Lite 6)
- Virtual Reality (STEEM) and Introductory AI (NVIDIA, Raspberry Pi, Arduino)
All delivered at a practical, level-2 understanding, designed to make these complex systems accessible and usable.
A Strong Foundation in Safety and Standards
Craig holds an IOSH certificate in the Management of Health & Safety (2023) and is trained under the Abrasive Wheels Act (2007). He’s worked with 2-phase and delta/star electrical setups, hydraulics/pneumatics with PLC integration, and metallurgy using Brinell and Vickers hardness testing. His knowledge base covers both deep technical know-how and safe systems of work, because good engineering is safe engineering.

Why Clients Choose Lamont Engineering Services
We don’t just deliver services. We bring clarity, confidence, and craft to every project. Whether you’re a homeowner (Structural steelwork), local business, or industrial operator, you’ll work directly with someone who’s been in the field, trained in the trade, and taught the next generation. Craig’s work is built on experience, not theory, and that’s what clients across the North West value.
